Church History

The establishment of the Catholic Church in Bolivip began in 1967 by the Montfort Missionaries from Canada. The first Mission Station was established in Gatik, which was located in a mountain valley about several hundred miles from the main village of Bolobip. After building the Mission Stasi, the village’s name “Bolobip” in the native dialect was changed to French-Canadian dialect to “Bolivip,” which is used to this day.
